December 2, 2008 (FPRC) -- NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. - The Newport Beach Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints presents its annual free Christmas Concert for the community on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm. Special guest performers include Grammy award-winner Janine Wynn and the Men in Blaque from the University of California, Irvine (UCI).

Wynn will perform “Christ, Child,” “Christmas Waltz,” and “Mary Did You Know?,” with Corona del Mar High School’s music teacher, Val Jamora, on the saxophone and Alto Melissa Rydjeski, and Jay Yates, a Nashville songwriter.

UCI’s Men in Blaque members come from many professions and backgrounds including computer experts, dancers, business owners, clergy, schoolteachers and undergraduate musicians. Dressed primarily in black, but often incorporating energetic dances or ingenious props, the group engages audiences with performances that encompass a wide spectrum of quality sacred and secular music. Some of the songs include “White Christmas,” “Little Drummer Boy,” and “Feliz Navidad.”

The Newport Beach Stake Choir, which is led by Sherry Kettley, is comprised of local volunteer Church members from Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. The Choir will sing a variety of holiday music from around the world, American favorites, and the classic Christmas carols.

“We are excited to welcome the Men in Blaque to our annual Christmas Concert program this year,” said The Newport Beach Stake Choir Leader Sherry Kettley. “We know that they will add a wonderful dimension to our musical celebration. Everyone that attends is sure to feel the warmth and happiness of the Christmas season through the many talented individuals that will share their musical gifts.”

The free concert will be located at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church building, 2150 Bonita Canyon Drive, Newport Beach, Calif. 92660. The entire family is invited. The program will last a little over an hour but it is suggested that attendees arrive early as there is no reserved seating.
