PPI Introduces FDA Approved Post Consumer Recycled Thermo Formed Packaging
PPI introduces stock and custom thermoformed packaging made from PPI 4-20 PET. This material is produced 100% from recycled water, juice, soda and sports drink bottles. Material is also biodegradable and compostable when disposed in a wide range of environments.

December 6, 2008 (FPRC) -- PPI, long time suppliers of eco friendly flexible and rigid packaging to paper, packaging, and specialty distributors is expanding their product line with thermoformed food and non-food packaging made of PPI 4-20. A new alternative for those companies interested in using more environmentally responsible packaging without sacrificing performance or increasing costs.
Made 100% from post consumer recycled plastic bottles, this high clarity, cost competitive, FDA approved material is a new alternative to traditional APET, OPS and PVC plastics. Performance, improving packaging scorecards and environmental benefits including lowering the carbon footprint and reducing the demand for natural resources, this new non biobased option is well suited for a wide range of food and non food packaging.
PPI 4-20 is also completely biodegradable and compostable.
Depending on the environment where disposed (landfill, industrial and home compost, natural bodies of water), material will biodegrade into carbon dioxide and water, aerobically or anaerobically in 9 months to 5 years. PPI 4-20 is also completely recyclable and has no negative effect on existing recycling streams.
Stock and custom clamshells, trays and containers are readily available and have no storage, shelf life or handling limitations.
PPI 4-20 can be produced in high clarity clear, tinted or opaque colors.
'Closed loop' programs are also available where companies or institutions can return collected water,juice, soda or sports drink bottles for remanufacturing back into thermoformed packaging for the company or institution returning the bottles.
