January 19, 2011 (FPRC) -- Between 17th to 27th February 2011, Le Raid 4L Trophy will see students raising money by rallying from France to Morocco in Renault 4Ls and tackling some of each country’s toughest terrain.
The journey begins in Bordeaux and Paris and then travels down to Algeciras in Southern Spain where the cars are then shipped across to Africa. Once in Africa the rally is all about navigating the steep sand dunes and unmarked roads in an attempt to cover the course in the fewest number of kilometres.
Drivers are given nothing but a map, road book and compass and then have to pass through a number of hidden checkpoints and the winners of each day will be those that have driven the shortest possible distance.
The course covers a total distance of around 6,00km, for those that find their way correctly, and is open to all students aged 18 to 28 but rules state there can be only two people per car.
At the end of the event awards will be given out to the best drivers and the competitors using hotels in Marrakesh at the final checkpoint can feel safe in the knowledge that they’ve helped to provide around 60 tonnes of educational and sporting equipment to children in Morocco.
Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: 'Hotels in Marrakesh are going to be packed with drivers from the final stage. Visitors will need to book places early to be sure of securing accommodation.'
