September 9, 2013 (FPRC) -- Source Power & Gas LLC (SPG) announced Phase 1 of its smart grid strategy and engagement with DR2, LLC and its DR-MassMarket™ solution. In this first phase, select residential and small commercial customers of SPG will participate in a pilot program to explore the attributes of ERCOT’s smart grid. Once testing is complete, SPG will implement demand response programs across its customer base.

“The smart grid is a wonderful innovation but like most of today’s technological advances, the pace of change is fast and complicated. We are pleased to partner with DR2 and their team and are excited about their knowledge regarding the smart grid and how it works. With their products and services, we will be able to provide our customers with their usage and consumption patterns via email as well as monitor their usage and take steps to change consumption patterns that will result in lower electricity usage and thus lower energy rates, not to mention help the grid when demand peaks. Determining the most viable way for our customers to participate in the smart grid is our goal and DR2 is the logical choice to help us with that process,” said John Werner, President of Source Power & Gas.

“Source Power & Gas is one of the most innovative retailers in the marketplace,” said Malcolm Smith, DR2’s CEO. “DR2 is excited to add SPG as a partner. We look forward to helping SPG with its demand response programs by using the installed smart grid technology in Texas. SPG and its customers will now be able to participate in ERCOT’s demand response programs as well as deploy for economic reasons alone. This is a very exciting time in the ERCOT market place and we look forward to helping SPG bring demand response capabilities to its customers.”

The first phase of SPG’s smart grid solution integrates Wi-Fi thermostats and smart meter data.
