LinkSpotters releases major update
LinkSpotters have gone through several updates. The update from v.1.2 to 2.0 is mostly a UI-related which completely changes the way links are shown in the main feed. Version 2.0 also packs five new languages – including Danish, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
LinkSpotters is the latest and greatest among link sharing services. LinkSpotters is a community driven social network, which means that users can comment on each link and follow users who they think post quality links.
Links are rated via a sophisticated point system. The users aggregate a “SpotScore” based on how popular their links are. How many points (called “SpotPoints”) a user is able to give to the links of other users depend on this SpotScore and the amount of followers the user have.
This combined is called “SpotPower”. The competition aspect has received a lot of positive feedback, and is considered a fun motivator to share content. A link’s amount of SpotPoints decreases with 5% one week afters being posted.
LinkSpotters is built upon a very strict way of categorizing links. When users add links, they have to place them in a two fixed selections: Media (image, video, text/article, sound or multi) and one of the 13 categories provided. Other users can then search among these or simply filter out what media and/or category they want to see links from.
LinkSpotters has a broad range of additional features, some of them being: live notifications, country subscription (for sharing and viewing links from specific countries), innovative thumbnail picker when sharing a link, an easy to use text/media editor for making unique content.
For the media - LinkSpotters is a great way for the media (online news aggregators, online newspapers, blogs etc.) to post their best articles that would get the most attention via SpotPoints and comments, and hence increase their web traffic.
