October 9, 2017 (FPRC) -- The annual RICS BIM4SME Awards gives recognition to organisations who are at the forefront of delivering successful BIM (Building Information Modelling) project initiatives, whilst promoting best practice and the importance of utilising BIM.

Willmott Dixon Interiors (WDI) won the award for the Best Overall BIM Project category. The award was presented for 39 Victoria Street, a category B fit-out project of an 11 storey building for Department of Health.

The project requirements were to implement BIM Level 2 in accordance with the government BIM mandate. Willmott Dixon Interiors used BIM to successfully design and deliver an attractive, yet highly cost effective and sustainable building for Department of Health to CAT B standard. The works comprised modern offices, meeting rooms, restaurant facilitates at a cost of just under £11.5 million.

“Department of Health were keen to reap the operational benefits of BIM on 39 Victoria Street so WDI worked closely with the supply chain to ensure digital data was structured correctly. This allowed COBie outputs and digital data to be reused by the FM contractor. WDI’s commitment and determination contributed to a truly collaborative culture which helped achieve the client’s aspirations”. – Shahida Rajabdeen, BIM Consultant and Client BIM Information Manager, 39 Victoria Street

‘One of the advantages of applying BIM on this project was the production of virtual reality and animations, which supported the client in gaining a better understanding of the project, and ensured that fundamental items to help create a highly productive working environment weren’t missed. The client was then able to make any amendments to areas and elements of the design to better suit their needs’. – Alan Muse FRICS, RICS Global Director of Built Environment Standards

Willmott Dixon Interiors Head of BIM, Amador Caballero added ‘This recognition highlights the contribution made by Willmott Dixon Interiors to the industry in our effort to achieve excellence in BIM. We are excited to continue to implement BIM on our projects and to demonstrate best practise and its benefits for our customers’.
